About the guide

What you need to know about applying for Maltese residence through The Malta Retirement Programme (MRP).

The Malta Retirement Programme (MRP) commenced in 2012. It has recently been made available to individuals who want to relocate to Malta and are not a citizen of an EU Member State, the EEA or Switzerland (ie. it is only open to ‘third country’ nationals), and are in receipt of a pension as their regular source of income. This permit requires you invest a minimum sum in real estate or in a minimum value 12-month rental contract.

This guide includes information on suitability, basic requirements, renewal and benefits.

We also have a guide to Malta’s Global Residency Programme (GRP) and Permanent Residency Programme (PRP) which can be downloaded separately.
