A rare opportunity has arisen to join a small team of Tax and Trust advisors based in Central London.

The team of multi-lingual tax advisors and lawyers work closely with the firm’s financial advisors in the UK and across Europe, as well as the groups own trust company.

This is a new role due to internal promotion and reorganisation.

The ideal candidate would be CTA/ATT/STEP part qualified or have 2-3 years practical experience working with trusts within a law practice, accountants, or corporate trustee. Experience of offshore trust structures would be desirable but not essential.

Role

  • The candidate will be working with the whole team but primarily with the Tax Trust and Investigation Manager and the Head of Technical Advice.
  • The role is primarily compliance focused but will involve assisting with the advice in respect of UK tax declarations by offshore trusts.
  • Drafting trust winding up and simple trust restructuring reports and preparing reports regarding client’s domicile positions.
  • Calculating the gains on life assurance policies, relevant income pools, stockpiled gains.
  • Initial 10-year anniversary reviews on behalf of our sister offshore trust company.
  • Completion of IHT 100’s on behalf of our sister offshore trust company
  • Some calculations may involve overseas jurisdictions (in our core countries: France, Spain, Portugal, Cyprus, and Malta).  Full training will be given in relation to the taxation of trusts in the relevant overseas jurisdictions.
  • Assisting with companywide tax reporting across our core European countries.
  • Supporting the team assistant as and when required and to provide cover in their absence.

Candidate

  • The candidate will be expected to work outside the initial job specification as this is a new and evolving role.
  • They will need to have sound UK personal trust tax knowledge.
  • Experience of UK trust compliance is essential.
  • A knowledge of advising on UK residence and domicile issues for people both leaving and entering the UK would be an advantage but not essential.
  • Experience with the UK taxation of single premium life insurance bonds is a distinct advantage, but not essential.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Strong numeracy skills and use of Excel are essential for the role.
  • The candidate must be prepared to travel within Europe (usually to Malta) for approximately six weeks per year.
