The importance of regulation
We believe it is vital that advice is sought only from firms that are appropriately regulated and authorised to give financial planning and investment advice in the country in which you live or are intending to live.
In the case of British nationals who are living overseas but who may return to the UK, or have UK based assets including pensions, or have UK based heirs, we believe that it is important that they seek advice from firms that are UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) authorised and regulated, and also passported into the country in which they live.
Only then can investors be reassured that they are dealing with advisers who –
- Meet high standards of compliance.
- Have attained the qualifications required by the FCA and have demonstrated competence under FCA rules.
- Are competent to advise on both the overseas and UK aspects of financial planning and investment advice.
- Are authorised to advise on UK pensions whereas all other non-UK FCA authorised firms are not.
- Are who they say they are - you can check the individual authorisation of the adviser on the UK FCA register.
